Château de Al Mère (NL) – waiting for the guests to arrive

Château de Al Mère is a half-finished castle, meant to be a hotel: construction started in 2000 but was stopped in 2002, after which the structure was turned into a modern ruin. The castle is still waiting for its first guests to arrive…

The plans for building the castle dates from 1999. The design is based on the 13th-century Jemeppe castle in Hargimont (Belgium). The first pile was driven on September 15, 2000.

The costs of the castle were initially estimated at 28 million euros, later increased to 76 million euros. The construction project was stopped in 2002 due to financial problems.
