Gasthaus Whisky πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ – Holiday in the Harz mountains

During our short summer holiday in the Harz we visited some abandoned gasthauser. A gasthaus is a German-style inn or tavern, with a bar, aΒ restaurant,Β banquetΒ facilities andΒ hotel roomsΒ forΒ rent.

They are typically found in smaller towns and are often family-owned; it is not uncommon to have three generations of a family working together in such an establishment and many have been owned by the same family for generations.

Although they are often beautifully situated in the mountains or in small villages, many are now abandoned. Don’t be surprised if you visit one and there is still a full 70/80’s interior in it!

I have no further history of Gasthaus Whisky, but it was also located in a beautiful remote place. Unfortunately there were only a few rooms to enter, we couldn’t go to the upper floors.
